Advances in Microbial Fuel Cells
This seminar will discuss the fundamentals of microbial fuel cells, including different electron transfer mechanisms, next generation materials, and microbial communities. The seminar will focus on the use of microbial fuel cells for wastewater treatment, specifically for hypersaline wastewaters. Greater than 5% of all wastewater is hypersaline, but traditional microbial fuel cells are not compatible with hypersaline environments. This talk will discuss the use of novel halophilic microbes from the Great Salt Lake (United States) for enhanced microbial bioelectrocatalysis and wastewater treatment.
